Two steps forward, one step back
07 04 09 - 12:57 Since I last posted an update on the ZXR400 I've managed to make a reasonable amount of progress. The engine has a new head gasket and camchain, the best 16 followers I could find between my two engines, and freshly adjusted valve clearances, and it's back in the bike. The front and rear subframes are coming together, despite me 'designing' them as I went along - and hence changing my mind every five minutes about how they should be laid out.
Unfortunately, as of tomorrow, I will have exactly one calendar month before the bike is due out on track at Anglesey. As if that wasn't tight enough, I'm away for the next two weekends. Hence the one step back... I don't really fancy turning up to a trackday a long way from home with a bike that I haven't ridden since last August. Putting any miles on the bike before May 8th means getting it through an MOT, and with the best will in the world I'm going to struggle to get the bike road-legal with the new subframe quickly enough to give it a proper shakedown.
So last night I came home, wheeled the bike outside to take the photo above, then took it back inside and started putting everything back to standard. Sensible? Logical? Definitely. Demoralising? That too. Hopefully I'll get it started up in the next day or two to raise the mood a bit.
